The Angus Hotel is ideally situated just 10 minutes walk from Carlisle city centre. For dining, the hotel is perfectly complemented by Almonds, a small and cosy restaurant that offers excellent food served in relaxed and friendly surroundings. The restaurant is proud to use locally sourced suppliers, all of whom are reputable companies that have been trading for many years.
Hotel Information
This cosy, small 14-bedroom hotel was built in the 1880s and is in the Stanwix part of the city where the Romans had a command headquarters for 1,000 cavalry, so the hotel's foundations are literally on Hadrian's Wall.
The hotel welcomes cycling, walking and golfing groups. For those wanting to get away from it all, take advantage of the special offers for short breaks available throughout the year.

Surrounding Area
We are conveniently located for exploring the beautiful English lake district, Eden valley, the sottish borders and Hadrian's Wall. We are also only a 10 minute walk into the city centre where there is plenty to see and do. Local attractions include the castle, Tullie House Museum and the the cathedral.
For shoppers there is the Lanes shopping centre, while there are also various places to eat and drink nearby.
Transport
By Car
From the M6:
- Take junction 44 and follow signs for the A7 towards Carlisle city centre.
- We are on the left-hand side of the road, approximately 2 miles from junction 44 (closest to the city centre).
- Turn left just after the hotel for free parking. A permit can be obtained from reception.
From the A69:
- Follow signs for Carlisle North / A689, signposted to Houghton / Carlisle Airport / Linstock / Hexham.
- At the next roundabout take the last exit (B6264) and follow the road into town (Brampton Road).
- Continue for 2 miles until you reach the Cumbria Institute of Arts on the right.
- Turn right at this junction (Well Lane) and follow the road until you reach a small car park on the corner. A free permit can be obtained from reception.
By Rail
A 5 minute taxi ride will take you to the hotel from Carlisle Citadel Station which has regular services to London Euston, Glasgow and Newcastle.
On Foot
From the city centre:
Head north up the hill, across Eden Bridge. We are on the same side of the road as the Sands Centre and approximately 10 minutes' walk from the centre.
Restaurants
?Almonds' is the hotel's small, cosy restaurant which offers excellent food in relaxed and friendly surroundings.
For breakfast, guests may have a full English breakfast and try out the local Cumberland sausages. For a more healthy option, smoked haddock is also available. Your breakfast is cooked fresh to order and there is always plenty of fresh fruit, fruit juices and a choice of cereals. Tea and freshly ground Colombian coffee is also served.
Almonds is open to both residents and non-residents. Enjoy home-baked bread, soups, chutneys and desserts. All the dishes from the à la carte menu are freshly prepared to order. A vegetarian selection is available and special diets can be catered for with advance notice.
A local wine merchant supplies a variety of new world wines to complement your meal. The licensed bar stocks a selection of local and European bottled beers. There is also a variety of after-dinner liqueurs and soft drinks available too.

When booking, please give your expected arrival time. On Sundays, the check-in is between 17:00 and 22:30.
The restaurant is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
