Carefully preserved and sensitively refurbished, this Georgian building now houses a family-friendly, boutique-style hotel, overlooking the village of Portree, the loch and out towards the Cuillin Mountains.
In Portree, on the beautiful Isle of Skye, Marmalade makes a lovely retreat and an attractive, peaceful base to relax with friends and family.
The stunning refurbishment has created a stylish and contemporary restaurant and bar. The shades of dusky pink, olive green and lilac are teamed with terracotta-tiled floors and subtle lighting to produce a chic, cosmopolitan space, decorated with original artworks.
The old and the new blend subtly and harmoniously. An original Georgian staircase leads up from the restaurant to 7 spacious en suite bedrooms, all with high-quality modern comforts and facilities. Crisp white-linen bedding and warm, comfortable fabrics generate a feeling of quality and excellent value for money.
Take a look out of the windows and the views simply take your breath away. Mature oak trees in the gardens frame Viewfield and Portree bay, and then outline the Cuillin Mountains in the distance.
Restaurants
This year, the hotel's restaurant is offering an entirely new menu. The restaurant and bar also offer an excellent traditional roast lunch on Sundays. Lunch can be enjoyed inside or outside in the courtyard or in the gardens.
Stylish and sophisticated, yet relaxed and friendly, the bar offers a broad selection of beers, malt whiskies and all your usual favourites.
The mature gardens provide a lovely alfresco dining area, with walkways to explore and the bar opens out to the rear to reveal an intimate, heated courtyard for more alfresco dining.
Children can look for the hotel's resident hens under the rhododendron bushes, play on the lawn or explore the lovely gardens, while you relax and enjoy the surroundings.
