Hotel Information

The Old Coach House is comprised of 12 delightful en suite rooms (bath or shower), a residents lounge, a bar and restaurant.

The Old Coach House is the sister hotel to the famous Lifeboat Inn and is located in the historic and scenic village of Thornham. All the bedrooms have been tastefully decorated, enhancing the charm of this old building with the subtle warmth of the furnishings.

A full English breakfast is served a short 5 -10 minutes walk away at The Lifeboat Inn. The Lifeboat is renowned for its hearty English breakfast, which will set you up for the day. The menu also caters for all tastes and appetites. The Lifeboat Inn is a 16th Century Smugglers Alehouse, which has magnificent views over open meadows to the harbour and Thornham's sandy beach beyond. The Lifeboat overflows with character and is homely with open log fires. Together the hotels offer the ideal home from home after a days walk on the beach, bird watching or discovering the towns and villages of North Norfolk.

The Old Coach House offers a relaxed and pleasing dining experience. The menu consists of freshly made pizzas, pastas, pies and salads so there is more than enough choice for all the family.

Surrounding Area

The surrounding area offers a multitude of interesting places to see and activities to enjoy. Holkham Hall, Sandringham House or Nelson's birthplace at nearby Burnham Thorpe (6 km/ 3.7 miles) are just a few of the many historic locations nearby. A drive down the coast will take you to many little fishing villages with picturesque quaysides ? not to mention all sorts of little shops, galleries and surprises.

Golfers can test their ability on one of the country?s top Championship Links at Hunstanton (3 km/ 1.8 miles). There is also the equally challenging Royal West Norfolk course at Brancaster only 5 minutes drive from the Inn. Should you want to make a week of it, there are fine courses within easy reach at Sheringham, King?s Lynn and Cromer.

Bird watchers, walkers and nature lovers are spoilt for choice. A walk from our front door will take you to Thornham beach in no time at all. Holme Nature Reserve is 3.2 km/ 2 miles away and Snettisham, Blakeney, Holkham and Cley Nature Reserve are all within a short driving distance.

There are numerous and varied walks along miles of open beaches, across sweeping sand dunes, through pine woods or along chalk and sandstone cliff tops. It is truly a walker?s paradise ? especially if you?re a dog!

For more nautical guests there is also (ask the golfers) a fair breeze and Brancaster Staithe has all the facilities for sailing. Hunstanton is now one of the busiest windsurfing centres in Britain. From the cliffs it is rare, come rain or shine, not to see windsurfers whizzing along ?on the crest of the wave?.

Transport

To reach us from London, take the m11 to Cambridge, then head for King's Lynn, via Ely, by following the a10. On reaching King's Lynn, take the a149 to Hunstanton, then follow the signs to Thornham, along the coastal road. Once in Thornham, follow Main Road (the A149) until you come to Staithe Road. Turn down Striate Road, then take a right turn down Ship Lane. The Lifeboat Inn is then found easily (on your right).

Restaurants

The bar and restaurant features a menu including pizza, pasta, pies and salads.

Important

Keys to your rooms at the Old Coach House are collected at the nearby Lifeboat Inn, which is approximately 5 minutes' walk from the Old Coach House. Please make your way to the Lifeboat Inn upon arriving in Thornham, in order to check-in.
