The Ship Inn is in the centre of the village of Sandgate, approximately 1.6 km (one mile) west of Folkestone on the A259. The village has a strong community feel, which you will experience as soon as you walk in. Styled as a nice pub, for nice people, it also has an extensive wine list which would appeal to even the greatest wine buff.

Parade Cottage, the adjacent Victorian building where the accommodation is housed, has been totally gutted and restored to a very high standard. All rooms have been decorated and furnished to offer luxurious accommodation with en suite facilities.

Breakfast is served in the courtyard or on the terrace, offering incredible views of the sea and, on a clear day, France.

Surrounding Area

The Ship Inn is in the centre of the village of Sandgate. The village has a strong community spirit of which The Ship is very much a part.

There are many restaurants and bars to choose from. The village has a totally non-commercial seafront, complete with a Tudor Castle.

A recent arrival is Dave the dolphin, who since April 2006 has taken up residence and features regularly on TV programmes.

Sandgate really is a great place to stay and former residents include Sir John Moore (The founder of the Light Infantry and creator of the 95th rifles), H.G. Wells and William Wilberforce.

The village is 1.6 km (one mile) from Folkestone Harbour and 3.2 km (2 miles) from the ancient town of Hythe. Canterbury is 20 minutes away by car. The Channel Tunnel terminal is 5 minutes away and the port of Dover 14 minutes.

The countryside is extremely beautiful and consists rolling downland just waiting to be explored.

Transport

By Car:
- From the M20, turn off the motorway at junction 12 and take the exit for Cheriton and Folkestone (formerly A20).
- At the 1st set of traffic lights, turn right and proceed for 1.2 km (0.75 miles) to road junction with the A259.
- Turn right and The Ship Inn is approximately 115 metres (125 yards) on the left-hand side.
