Hotel Information

Situated right on the cliff top with beautiful views of Whitby and the bay, you can simply cross the road and walk straight down onto the beach for fresh sea air and brisk walks. The Wheeldale is close to the Spa Theatre and all that Whitby has to offer, with the harbour and town only minutes' walk away. The town centre has numerous excellent restaurants and a selection of facilities for tourists. With the bed and breakfast as your comfortable base, you can explore Whitby and all of its charms or enjoy the moors in all of their natural glory and picturesque beauty.

Parking is available free of charge for guests' use during their stay. The forecourt can accommodate up to 8 cars, though if the bed and breakfast is very busy, your car may be blocked in on the forecourt. Guests can also park on the seafront, if space is available.

If you do not need to move your car, the Wheeldale can also offer extra secure parking by prior arrangement, at the side of the property. There is also a lock-up garage for the storage of motor cycles.

Complimentary wireless internet access is available in the Seaview cafe. For more private access (and a nominal additional cost) you can use the house?s fast wireless broadband hotspot to connect via your own laptop in the comfort and privacy of your own room.

Reception is open from 07:00 to 19:00. There is a pay phone next to reception for taxis and urgent calls. Out-of-hours arrangements can be made at reception by request. As well as the Seaview cafe, all of the rooms are also fully equipped with a range of complimentary beverages. There is a selection of videotapes and DVDs available from the lounge, which may also be used in guests' rooms.

Surrounding Area

There is plenty to see and do in Whitby and the surrounding area.

The town is home to an authentic replica of HMS Endeavour, which was sailed by Captain James Cook during his scientific expedition of 1768. The replica has been traditionally built by Whitby craftsmen and is approximately 40% of the original ship?s size. You can even join the crew on one of the regular sailings around Whitby Harbour, which take place throughout the year.

High on a cliff, in an imposing location above the town, the ancient remains of Whitby Abbey are the town's oldest attraction. The abbey was founded in 657 by St Hilda.

The town is also the site of several fascinating museums. Whitby Museum plays host to a number of interesting displays of historical artefacts and local art from the town's past. Whitby Lifeboat Museum celebrates the town's heroic lifeboat men and the Captain Cook Museum commemorates the life and achievements of Captain James Cook, who sailed from the town. There is also a new science museum, Whitby Wizard.

You could also visit Doodlepots, where you can paint your own pottery, the peaceful fishing village of Robin Hood's Bay, which is just 5 miles away, or Whitby's Whale Bone Arch, which commemorates the town's once large whaling industry.

Transport

By Car:
When entering Whitby, follow the signs for the west cliff. The west cliff is clearly signposted from the outskirts of Whitby and also from the centre of town. The signs will lead you directly to the North Promenade, where the hotel is located.
