Surrounding Area
Grantown-on-Spey, the capital of Strathspey, is in the centre of the Scottish Highlands and only 14 miles from Aviemore.
A traditional Highland town on the River Spey on the northern edge of the Cairngorms National Park, it is a fine example of a Georgian planned town, one of the 1st to be set out in this fashion in the 1760s.
It has many historic buildings, a tree lined square and striking Georgian and Victorian architecture. You will find Grantown an ideal base for touring the Scottish Highlands.

By car:
- Upon arrival to Grantown-on-Spey, from the square continue for the Garth Hotel and turn right into Burnfield Avenue.
- Passing the museum on your left, continue to the end of the road.
- Turn right and immediately on your left is the driveway leading up to Westhaven B&B.
By rail:
The closest station is Aviemore (12 miles). A bus service, taxi and car hire service are available from Aviemore to Grantown on Spey. A transport service is available on request.
By plane:
The closest airport is Inverness (Dalcross). From the airport:
- Follow signs for Inverness and take the A9 south.
- Exit left onto the A938 for Carrbridge/Grantown on Spey. A transport service is available on request.
