From the doorstep there are many walks without the need to use a car. An easy walk down into Bowness and there is the home to the world of Beatrix Potter. Walk throughout Bowness to the lakeshore where you will find the pier that takes the lake cruises from Bowness to Ambleside, or Lakeside where you can enjoy the Aquarium of the lake or journey a little further on one of the steam trains on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway. There are many things to do to suit all tastes within easy reach either by car or on one of the many trips organised in the area.

By Car
From the M6 junction 36:
- Follow the A590 which becomes the A591 to Windermere (about 16 miles).
- Then turn left into Windermere village (signposted Bowness and The Lake).
- Drive through the traffic lights and take the second turning on the right-hand side.
- Look out for the Lakeland Insurance building on the corner of Old College Lane.
